Honda’s Latest Airbag Recall Broadens List of Affected Vehicles

Last month, Honda announced that over 2 million more of its U.S. vehicles would be recalled due to the defective manufacturing of Takata airbags. This brings the total number of Honda recalls in relation to the malfunctioning airbags to 8.51 million vehicles worldwide.

It’s not only Honda that has issued mass recalls due to Takata airbag malfunctions. Ford, Nissan, BMW, GM and many other brands have recalled vehicles due to the faulty airbags, with numbers reaching well over 30 million.

While Honda has not seen many reports of these airbags performing incorrectly, they are encouraging owners to take immediate action in having them replaced, as there is still the potential for an explosion. The model years of affected vehicles range from 2005-2016 and while an official list has not been released, vehicles made with the defective airbags include the following:

• 2007-2014 Honda Ridgeline
• 2009-2014 Honda Fit
• 2005-2012 Acura RL
• 2011-2015 Honda CR-Z
• 2013-2016 Acura ILX

Honda will be notifying owners of affected vehicles personally and will also provide complimentary replacement of the defective airbags. However, due to the massive amount of parts and labor required to begin the repairs, replacement will not be available until this summer.
