Civil Trial Specialist certificate

Sid Gilreath, founder of Gilreath & Associates, was recently recertified as a Board Certified Civil Trial Specialist by the National Board of Trial Advocacy.

An exceptional attorney with an outstanding record, Sid’s experience spans four decades and includes a wealth of successful judgments, settlements and verdicts. Being certified is just one part of that equation.

Certification sets an attorney apart as a specialist in their area. Although being certified is nothing new for Gilreath, as he’s kept up his certification for the past 35 years, the process of recertifying every five years is no small feat.

Becoming Board-Certified

Any civil trial specialists wanting to join the ranks of other professionals holding this rank have to apply with the National Board of Trial Advocacy. Applicants have a very high bar to reach in order to achieve certification. They must:

  • Be in good standing in their state
  • Demonstrate their extensive experience with civil trial work
  • Complete certain continuing education classes
  • Submit several references, including from other lawyers and judges
  • Pass a written test
  • Submit examples of their written work

Board certification only lasts five years. Attorneys must reapply for each five-year period. That alone lets you know how serious the NBTA is about making sure attorneys on the board-certified list are still meeting these high standards.

You want an attorney that is board-certified, just like you’d want a doctor performing surgery on you to be certified, or an architect building a house for your family to be certified. It ensures you that you are getting the best person that will provide you with the best possible outcome.
