Car Accidents Resulting From Sudden Acceleration

A car accident lawyer is crucial for your case

According to a report by ABC news, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is seeking the largest possible civil penalty against Toyota, as well as the largest civil penalty against an automaker, for failing to notify the government about defects in gas pedals manufactured by the company.

Toyota recalled 2.3 million vehicles with these so-called sticky gas pedals because they appeared to cause sudden acceleration. The law requires that carmakers inform the NHTSA within five business days when a safety defect, such as sticky pedals, is identified. Internal documents supplied by Toyota to the NHTSA showed that the company knew of the defect, and failed to inform the regulatory agency for a full four months prior to the recall.

Under federal law, the NHTSA is allowed to levy a fine of $16.375 million for the notification delay. An investigation of Toyota is still ongoing to determine if additional safety violations took place.

Why you need a car accident lawyer

If you or someone you love suffered a car accident due to sticky gas pedals, do not expect Toyota to willingly offer compensation. This is where a car accident lawyer can help you. You need skilled legal support from experienced attorneys who know how to demonstrate that your injury is the result of faulty equipment or manufacturing.
