Growing up in the deep South in the 1940's and 1950's, I gained a respect for the companies and the working men and women that built this great country. I gained a similar respect for our nation's civil justice system which slowly transformed the South and the country as a whole into an integrated society providing access to justice for all Americans.
Because I believed then, as I do now, that corporations and individuals deserve fair treatment under the law, I defended major insurers and local and national corporations for the first half of my career. The firm I founded defended these companies against suits filed against them by individuals injured in automobile accidents and injured by defective or dangerous chemicals and products such as Agent Orange and asbestos. This work gave me extensive knowledge on how major companies evaluate and defend personal injury cases.
My defense work was financially rewarding, but it never satisfied my desire to actually help hard working individuals and families like those I knew in Louisiana. In 1986, I left my defense firm and devoted my career to representing the injured. Working to ensure that individuals have access to justice and that irresponsible corporations are held accountable for their actions has been the most rewarding work of my life.
